How the BMI calculator works
Formula. Metric BMI is weight in kilograms / (height in meters)², with centimeters converted by dividing by 100. Imperial BMI is (weight in pounds / (height in inches)²) × 703. Categories are under 18.5 underweight, under 25 normal, under 30 overweight, and 30 or above obese.
Example. 70 kg at 175 cm is 70 / (1.75 × 1.75) = 70 / 3.0625 = 22.9, which the page labels normal weight.
Limitation. BMI does not measure body fat, and the category cutoffs are the fixed thresholds in the script, not a medical diagnosis.
