How the Calendar Generator works

Formula. The month grid starts on the weekday of day 1. Federal holidays use the weekday rules for that year: Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the third Monday of January from 1986, Washington’s Birthday and Memorial Day use the Monday rule from 1971, and Columbus Day is the second Monday of October from 1971.

Example. October 2026 starts on Thursday, October 1. Columbus Day is the second Monday, October 12, 2026, not October 13.

Limitation. Holiday highlighting follows U.S. federal dates, including weekend observance, and does not include state or local holidays.
