How the Personal Year Calculator works

Formula. Personal year = ((birth month + birth day) mod 9) + 1. Universal year = (sum of the digits of the calendar year) mod 9, or 9 when that remainder is 0.

Example. Birth month 5 and birth day 12 give (5 + 12) mod 9 + 1 = 17 mod 9 + 1 = 8 + 1 = 9. For 2026, the digit sum is 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10, and 10 mod 9 = 1, so the universal year is 1.

Limitation. The personal-year number on this page ignores the calendar year. Only the universal year uses the year digits.
