Percentage Point Calculator

How the Percentage Point calculator works

Formula. Percentage-point change = ending rate − starting rate. Relative percent change = (ending rate − starting rate) / |starting rate| × 100.

Example. A rate rising from 20% to 25% increases by 25 − 20 = 5 percentage points. Relative to the 20% starting rate, the increase is 5 / 20 × 100 = 25%.

Limitation. Percentage points compare two rates directly; they are not the same as relative percent change. Relative change is undefined when the starting rate is 0.
